東亞國家在面對全球化的衝擊下，積極尋求區域合作以增加自身的經濟實力與談判籌碼。但對於區域合作，東亞各國由於經濟的脆弱性以及相互的差異性，卻需要強權的領導才可能整合成功。在這種情況下，美國所領導的亞太經濟合作會議與歐盟所領導的亞歐會議，成爲兩股競爭的勢力，企圖在東亞的經濟整合上取得領先的地位。本文比較這兩個組織的結構、功能、與本質，發現亞歐會議很有可能後來居上，超越亞太經濟合作會議而成爲加速東亞整合的主要力量，並且對美歐亞三角戰略關係產生衝擊。

Under the impact of globalization, East Asia nations have pursued regional integration to strengthen their economic capacities and negotiating chips. Success is not foreseeable due to their vulnerability in economy and difference in many aspects. It takes the leadership of major powers to help them integrate. The United States and the European Union are interested because they both intend to expand their economic territory. Under the circumstances, US-led Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and EU-led Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) are established to compete with each other in the East Asia area. This paper compares APEC and ASEM in terms of their structures, functions and essence. It is found that ASEM has the potential to catch up with APEC in leading East Asia integration. The presence and competition of APEC and ASEM also have impacts on the strategic triangle among US, EU and East Asia.
