Wen Zheng-ming (1470-1559) was the famous literatus and artist in Suzhou Ming dynasty. The Xi-yuan poem and calligraphy were special value in Wen's all poetry, calligraphy and paintings. In Wen's later years, he constantly repeated writing the Xi-yuan poem with calligraphy and seemed to express the unique emotion and recollection. According the existing calligraphy, Wen was writing continuously the Xi-yuan poem six times at least. Even there were seventeen works in the bibliographic record.
This article attempts to comprehend Wen's mind, emotion, and creative behavior, special when he stayed in Beijing to be an official during Jia-jing reign. The experience of an official to Wen was much conflict and contradiction. However the special memorable recollection became the concerned and confused problem in his later years.
