In the whole year of 2020 while most countries around the world already shut down their schools of all level because of COVID-19 pandemic, students in Taiwan could still enjoy a normal school life. However, sudden and urgent closure of schools of all level on May 19, 2021 forced teachers island-wide to adapt ourselves to synchronous online teaching. Even though most teachers were asked to rehearse teaching online a couple of times before, it still poses a tough challenge to most teachers. After six-week synchronous online classes, some inspiring findings can be found from on-site personal reflection and comments and feedback from students. First of all, while digital divide still creates inequalities in terms of high-performance computers and access to high-speed Internet connection, software installation and usage sometimes is more critical than gaps in hardware. Second, about 60% of respondents in my classes are quite satisfied with the function and interface of Microsoft Teams and the researcher finds that the function of giving control of shared screen is pretty useful when teaching computer-related courses which need to give students chances to demonstrate what they have learned. Finally, it seems that more students prefer synchronous online classes to traditional brick-and-mortar classes. However, the strengths of online classes they mentioned are mainly focused on convenience and flexibility of online classes rather than pedagogical innovations and improvement. Similarly, the drawbacks most students complained are related to technical issues such as the speed and stability of Internet connection.
