從良路迢迢，難得有情郎－談杜十娘與莘瑤琴

明‧馮夢龍先生所編纂的「三言」中，〈杜十娘怒沈百寶箱〉及〈賣油郎獨占花魁〉兩篇作品談的都是「妓女從良」的故事；所不同的是，〈杜十娘怒沈百寶箱〉以悲劇收場，〈賣油郎獨占花魁〉則以喜劇作結。究竟是什麼樣的原因造成同為青樓名妓的杜十娘和花魁娘子莘瑤琴，有著截然不同的贖身結果？是人物性格決定命運？還是大環境無情的操弄？想要順利地從良落籍，又是否有一定的遊戲規則或脈絡可尋？ 深謀遠慮的杜十娘在從良路上處處小心，並不停地對官宦子弟李甲加以試探，最後卻在李甲深心懼怕老父，以及經濟無法自足的雙重壓力下，被迫再度重回「迎新送舊」的生活模式，而導致「怒沈百寶箱」的悲劇結局。莘瑤琴在從良的路上不似杜十娘謹慎，然而她幸運地遇上了細心體貼且經濟獨立的秦重，而得到〈賣油郎獨占花魁〉的喜劇結局。

In ”Three Words” written by Mr. Feng Meng-lung from Ming Dynasty, there are two articles about convertites: ”Tu Shih-liang Drowns Treasure Chest with Anger” and ”Oil Man & Famous Prostitute”; however, the major difference is the former ends with a tragedy while the latter is with a happy ending. What caused this major difference for these two famous prostitutes? Was their fate affected by their own characters or by the cruel external environments? Was there any certain pattern to follow for settling down with a happy ending? Tu Shih-liang was very thoughtful and she was also very cautious for finding a good man to settle down, and she kept testing Lee Chia, son of key civilservant, with different difficulties. However, she was forced to continue her previous life again since Lee Chia was under the stress from his father and he was not financially independent, which resulted in the tragedy of ”Drowning Treasure Chest with Anger”. On the contrary, although Hsin Yao-chin was not as cautious as Tu Shih-liang, she was very fortunate to meet Chih Chung who was considerate and financially independent and made her story with a happy ending.
