【Introduction】 The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between physical fitness/motor abilities and television/video viewing time (>120 min/day), while reviewing measures to address problems of the Japanese young children. 【Methods】 This study was conducted by using a questionnaire survey (TV viewing time, et al.) of 440 young children (204 boys, 236 girls) who attend kindergarten in Okayama city in 2013-2014. Also, physical fitness and motor ability tests (two-hands grip, jump and crawl back, 25 meter dash, standing broad jump, ball throw, and physical activity) were measured on the young children (aged 4 to 6). 【Results】 For the relationship between physical fitness/motor abilities and television/video viewing time, in case of boy group, young children who watched television/videos for short periods, when compared to young children who watched television/video for long times, had stronger in two hands grip and were higher physical activity level (p <0.05). 【Discussion】 Based on the above results, in order for the healthy development of Japanese young children, rather than spending too much time watching television/video, they should spend more time playing outdoor and moving their bodies with their friends. |
