The study surveyed and assayed the participating motivation of the Tainan municipal junior high school rugby club students by adopting a comparative approach to identify the variances of the grader and gender variables influential to the participating motivation variables. The methodology was the questionnaire survey using the author-edited survey sheet as the tool. The subject was the 7th, 8th & 9th graders (students in grades 7-9) sampled from the Tainan municipal junior high school rugby clubs comprised of 210 graders (172 boys and 38 girls). The statistical procedures were the descriptive statistics, t-test and one-way ANOVA. Based on the collected, processed and analyzed data, the results and findings are: 1. In terms of the grader and gender variables influential to the participating motivation, the highest rated participating motivation variable is the technical needs variable while others rated from high to low are the well-being needs, self-actualization, mental needs and interpersonal relations variables, respectively; 2. In terms of the variances of the grader and gender variables influential to the participating motivation, the gender variable was proven to be influential to the mental needs, self-actualization and interpersonal relations variables (a.k.a. the participating motivation of the boys explicitly exceeded that of the girls according to the data collected, processed and analyzed) whereas the grader variable was proven to be influential to none of the participating motivation variables.
