The spike in volleyball can be divided into four major phases: run-up, jumping, take-off and landing. The main objective in the phases of run-up and jumping is to increase the jumping height. However, when body starting the run-sip phase, the movement of arm swing is inevitable and accompany with the arm upward swing in the take-off phases. Limited study focuses on the effects of swing amplitude on run-up and jumping period. The purpose of this study were kinematical analyze the effects of swing angular on run-up and jumping period during smash, in order to provide scientific and useful information for volleyball training. Six outstanding volleyball players with three different skill levels (national, college and junior) were recruited as subjects. Two high speed (120 Hz) video cameras with Peak Performance 3D motion analyses software. Study the effect of arm swing amplitude in starting the run-up & jumping phases. Descriptive statistics and Person's correlation analyses were conducted to assay the relationship between each variable. The results as follow: 1. There was significantly correlation between the arm swing amplitude and the speed in run up in all skill level volleyball players; 2. In the jumping phase, the vertical speed of body mass and the height of jumping were significantly correlation with the arm swing amplitude, exception the horizontal speed of body mass.
