In domestic and foreign mountaineering and hiking, accidents caused by falls or slips are frequent. The reason is that in addition to personal health, safety knowledge, risk awareness and protective measures, the non-slip design of the hiking trail system lacks humaniged considerations is the most important factor. In this study, taking the Buff Transmountain Trail as an example, 26 mountain hikers were recruited to conduct an empirical study. The results found that the subjects had insufficient safety awareness, insufficient safety knowledge, insufficient risk awareness, and incomplete safety measures. As for the anti-slip facilities of hiking trails, most of the subjects were satisfied. Except for the installation of drawstrings on steep slopes, most of the bridges and log stairs had anti-slip wire mesh devices. This study also found that up to 31% of the subjects had slipped, fallen or stepped on the ground, mainly due to the damage and lack of maintenance of some roads, wooden bridges, or step anti-slip devices. In addition, the subjects generally believed that ropes or handrails were the most important in terms of anti-slip facilities, followed by anti-slip devices on the road surface. Finally, as far as the ladder design is concerned, these subjects' subjective perceptions are most likely to slip and fall in situations where the level of height and depth are not equal. Overall, this study suggests that mountain hikers should strengthen their safety knowledge and risk awareness, and the equipment and assistive devices must be complete. In addition, the anti-slip design of the hiking trail system should consider installing handrails or draw ropes on slippery roads, bridges and stairs, and supplemented by barbed wire or non-slip materials, as well as instruction slogans, etc. to prevent slips and accidents of mountain hikers.
