《道藏》中保存了兩種與大型真菌有關的著作：《種芝草法》和《太上靈寶芝草品》。後者為圖鑑形式，在對127種芝進行描述的同時，也給每種芝附圖一幅。從文字內容看，此書夾雜了大量的道教神以思想，芝的名稱也與五行密切相關；對照附圖，則這127種芝無一為現代分類學上的靈芝，其中大部分為傘狀大型真菌，其餘則形狀怪異，荒誕不經。此書在古代芝的分類知識方面無甚貢獻，而在道教與生物學的關係方面則可以反映出，在道教徒意識中，芝的概念至少包含傘菌、非傘菌的大型真菌、非大型真菌的生物，以及部分非生物。

The Taoist Patrology contains two texts on macrofungi: Methods of Cultivating Zhi and A Treatise of Zhi of the Supreme Numinous Treasure. The latter text consists of the descriptions of 127 kinds of Zhi both in words and illustrations. Each kind of Zhi is elaborately illustrated. From the text, it is easy to find that the content is mixed with much Taoist thought of immortality, and the names of the various kinds of Zhi have a great relation with The Five Elements. After Comparing with the 127 illustrations accordingly, none of the various kinds of Zhi can be regarded as the Ganoderma fungus. Most of them are agarics while the others are weird and unauthentic. The text contributes little to the knowledge of classification of the Ganoderma fungi in ancient China, however, in the aspect of the relationship between Taoism and biology, the conception of Zhi in the Taoists' mind considered to consist of agarics, fungi of non-agarics, non-macrofungi creatures and non-creatures.
