The objective of this research is three-fold: To study trends and expectations of hospitality employers and academics on hospitality course and curriculum design, as well as to ascertain requirements and student opinions on selecting hospitality and hotel business programs, and lastly to examine factors in selecting graduates to work. The data was collected from 185 high school students interested in studying in a Hospitality and Hotel Management program. The instruments utilized were questionnaires, in-depth interviews and focus groups. Fundamental statistics were employed for data analysis. The findings revealed that international career enhancement, language skills and personality enhancement were the most important factors affecting decisions to study in the international program. In addition, language ability was the primary platform for successful study, and internships abroad within the industry were the most preferable type of learning at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. Therefore, the trend toward hospitality and hotel business management study was based on hands-on experiences and work-integrated learning. |
