通過對中國建築發展的兩個不同時刻進行歷史考察，本文討論了全球化過程中的殖民議題。其中一個時刻是19世紀末20世紀初的殖民主導時期，當時，建築作為一種專業實踐，剛剛傳入中國，創造了一種中國現代建築。另一個時刻是當今的全球化時期，這時，殖民主義已被設想成過去的事物。後一種觀點在過去早已被用來否認殖民主義的存在。本文試圖反駁上述觀點。我們認為，通過作為跨國企業的全球建築公司這個中介者，各種建築形式已從幾個全球權力中心擴散開來，在這種狀況底下，現時刻的突出標記甚至是一種擴大了的權力的殖民性，隨之而來的則是對地方的遺忘和抹殺。現在跟過去的最大分別是，國家直接勾連到這種建築的全球化過程裡。這種狀況提醒我們，應更密切注視殖民權力聯盟中的階級議題。
