The Role of Knowledge Level in Translation Competence-A Case Study

一般咸認中文、英文均流利者，自然而然就會中英雙向翻譯，事實上，學界早已推翻此一傳統錯誤觀念，並長期討論如何培養與發展譯者之知識層面與翻譯能力。翻譯能力係指中英雙語者所不具備之翻譯專門知識，因此，充足的知識層面對譯者絕對有幫助。本研究旨在進一步了解知識層面與翻譯能力之間的關係，以及知識層面如何幫助譯者獲得其翻譯能力，藉由檢驗兩者並找出兩者之間關聯，將有效協助教師及學生發展更有效的學習策略，加速學習過程，提昇學習能力。

Although conventionally, people who speak both Chinese and English are thought to be natural born interpreters or translators, the development and cultivation of translation competence and knowledge level of translators has been long discussed by academic circles. Translation competence here refers to expert knowledge not possessed by bilingual people. Proficient knowledge level, in this sense, definitely is a plus for translators. This present study, thus, attempts to better understand the relationship between knowledge and translation competence and how knowledge level helps translators to acquire their competence. By examining the relationship between knowledge level and acquisition of translation competence, students and teachers are able to develop effective strategies to facilitate the learning process.
