長期的規律性運動雖然可以產生許多對健康正面的效果,但是不同型態或項目之運動也可能會造成身體組成的差異或者脂肪分佈區位的不同。近年來的研究也顯示脂肪堆積的位置會影響肥胖與相關疾病的危險程度,尤其是腹部肥胖。腹部肥胖的內臟脂肪量與代謝症候群之相關疾病有高度正相關,腹部肥胖會增加心血管疾病、肺功能疾病、糖尿病等發生的機率。而評估腹部肥胖的方法,腰圍、腰臀比、腹部皮脂厚、矢狀腹圍及腹部容積指數等人體測量學指標也可以有效的評估是否有腹部肥胖,且適合推廣於一般大眾。本文最後探討規律運動對腹部肥胖之影響,顯示中低強度或中強度之有氧運動可以有效的降低腹部內臟脂肪量以達到預防腹部肥胖之效果。
